LOGAN, UTAH: Ruth Peterson Lewis Johnson passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, April 14, 2007. She is loved, she will be missed, and her family and friends are thankful that she is at peace.
Ruth lived a long and active life, devoted largely to giving and caring for others. Born to Robert and Dareta Peterson in Ephraim, Utah on August 2, 1924, she moved with her family to Cowley, Wyoming at the age of three. Ruth grew up around the Big Horn Canning Company, which was owned by her father and his identical twin brother, Ren. Ruth later attended BYU and the University of Wyoming, and taught high school English. On June 21, 1945, Ruth married her first husband, Claude A. Lewis, Jr. in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children. Claude died following heart surgery on November 22, 1959. Mutual friends later introduced Ruth to Earl Johnson, a widower with three young daughters from Logan, Utah. On May 3, 1963, Ruth and Earl married in the Logan Temple, joining their two families in Logan. Together they had two sons.
Ruth was a faithful member of the LDS church, and served in many callings throughout her life. In 1991 and 1992, she and Earl served a mission in Washington State. Ruth will be remembered in so many ways. She loved music, and from the age of nine, she brought it into the lives of others as both a pianist and organist for her church. But most of all, Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unfailing smile.
