Ryan Matthew Brewster, 23, died April 21, 2007, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident on the Seward Highway. He was 12 days away from his 24th birthday.
A service will be at 4 p.m. today at the Strawberry Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3250 Strawberry Road.
Ryan was born May 3, 1983, in Provo, Utah. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Tacoma, Wash., where Ryan spent his first three years. In 1986, the family moved to Anchorage, where Ryan attended Wonder Park and Rabbit Creek elementary schools, Hanshew Middle School and Service High School. He graduated from Service in 2001. As a youth, Ryan was active in Boy Scouts and wrestling. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ryan owned a snowplowing and landscaping business, Oceanview Tree and Snow. His family wrote: "He had a reputation for being hard-working and conscientious. Ryan had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to develop a business where he could enjoy the Alaskan outdoors."
Ryan loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed motor sports. He was just 15 when he restored a Honda Odyssey. In his senior year of high school, Ryan restored an old Ford pickup in which he loved to go off-roading. He also enjoyed playing the guitar.
Ryan loved spending time with his family, and he was close with his brothers and sisters. Many family pictures show Ryan with his arm lovingly around those he cherished. He had a tender heart and sweet spirit. He loved animals, especially the family dog, Daisy.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Dan and Monica of Anchorage; siblings, Melissa Gilmore of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cameron Brewster of Syracuse, Utah, Ben, Chris and Alexandra Brewster of Anchorage, Lincoln and Stephanie Brewster of Roseville, Calif., and Tristan Brewster of Los Angeles; grandmother, Betty Perry of Sun City, Ariz.; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Ryan was preceded in death by an infant sister, Celeste. He will be placed to rest next to her in Clarkston, Utah.
