Sadie Gifford Miller Sproles

October 31, 1922 — June 3, 2018

One of Heavenly Father’s choicest and elect daughters Sadie Sproles passed away peacefully after courageously enduring to the end. Her husband regularly said that if Sadie threw him out the front door, he would sneak in the back door; Coman snuck in and happily took her by the hand in the early morning hours of June 3, 2018.

She was born October 31, 1922 in Clydebank, Dunbarton, Scotland to Sarah Glenn Gifford and Edward Archibald Miller. She was the first of three daughters.

She married Coman Leonard Sproles May 18, 1947 in Maryland after World War II. He proposed to her when he came home on furlough on June 21, 1944. The church they were attending opposed rings, so he gave her a watch instead. They had three children: Bonnie Jean, Janet Elizabeth and Mark Coman.

Coman and Sadie converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969. A year later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for all eternity.
The Sproles embraced the gospel wholeheartedly. Most of her callings were primarily in music as Ward Organist, Ward Choir Director, Primary Pianist, Choir Accompanist and Relief Society Teacher. She and her husband served as Stake Missionaries in Maryland. They also served together in the Washington D.C. Temple. When Coman was called to be a Patriarch, Sadie was his scribe. Until the very last, Sadie wrote her letters in shorthand and later transcribed them to send.

Sadie loved to sing and joined several choirs in Maryland and the Northern Utah Choral Society when her son-in-law Will Kesling was the Artistic Director.

Sadie was a classy lady and her trademark was her impeccable matching outfits from head to toe. She always wore a hat when she went out and matching shoes and gloves.

She retired from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Bethesda, Maryland after 27 years. She made friends easily as she was a sweet spirit naturally and kept in touch with many friends over the years.

She was gracious and appreciative. Even when it was almost the end, she would tell the aides thank you for helping her in a weak, but sweet voice. We wish to thank the staff at Maple Springs of North Logan for their tender and loving care until the end. And a special thanks to Robert Chandler the hospice nurse for his support, guidance, and sensitivity.

She is preceded in death by her eternal companion Coman Sproles, parents, in-laws, sisters Jean Glen Miller Headley, Janet Miller Praskievicz and daughter Janet Sproles Kesling.

Surviving are her daughter Bonnie Jean Sproles and husband Jerome Messina, son Mark Coman and wife Mae Sproles, son-in-law Willard Kesling, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Her viewing will be held on Friday June 8th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Foothill 1st Ward, 1450 E. 1500 N. Logan, Utah. Funeral services will be held that same day at 11:00 a.m. in the same location. Burial will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
