Marvin Scott Fluckiger passed away in Logan, Utah on July 28, 2024, after an extended battle with cancer. Scott was born in Logan on June 9, 1944, to Alvin Christian and LaVaun Whitecar Fluckiger.

Scott had a happy childhood, roaming around Logan City, in his neighborhood on Fourth North, on the Island, and USU. He had lots of adventures with his friends and on his own, exploring anywhere and everywhere his two feet could take him.

Scott met his sweetheart, Arlene Lamb, while cruising Main with his friends. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple in September 1965. Shortly after they were married, they moved into their home on Fifth North, and soon outgrew it. Scott and Arlene began to remodel and did all the work themselves, from digging the foundation, to framing, wiring and plumbing, painting and flooring, doubling the size of their home.

To say that Scott was a handyman is an understatement. He liked to build, repair, refinish, tinker and innovate. He could take anything apart, fix it, and put it back together. At the time of his passing, he was working to restore his 1932 Ford Coupe.

Scott had many hobbies. He loved collecting stamps and coins and made a complete set of birth year coins for all his kids and grandkids. He also liked to collect nuts, bolts, screws, and car parts, and he could tell you exactly where something was in his overcrowded shop. His motto was “You never know when you might need that one part".

Scott was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Gospel and taught his children to love and serve the Lord as well. He held many callings: scout leader, ward clerk, bishopric, stake high council and temple worker. His first calling in his ward was Scoutmaster. He wasn’t much older than the scouts he led. He and Arlene also served a Church Service Mission in the Employment Center in Logan.

Scott worked at the Logan Post Office as a Letter Carrier. He made many lifelong friends with his coworkers, patrons on his route, and in his affiliation in the National Association of Letter Carriers. He and Arlene loved travelling to conventions and meeting with other union members. He served in many capacities of the local branch, and as President of the NALC in the State of Utah.

After Scott retired, Scott and Arlene continued to travel, sometimes just hopping in the car to see where this or that road would take them, but most of the time they traveled to see family.

Dad enjoyed volunteering at the gun range and driving for Meals on Wheels for the Cache Senior Center.

Shortly before his passing, he was able to celebrate his 80th birthday with his family. Dad always enjoyed having his family gather round, for any reason. He especially loved backyard campfires, hot dog roasts, and popcorn on Sunday nights.

Scott will be truly missed by his family of eight kids: Coleen and Michael Olson, Citrus Heights, CA; Mark and Adrian, Carson City, NV; Lisa and Donald Nerdin, American Fork, UT; Karen, Logan; Paul and Alison, Smithfield; Jennifer, Logan; Brian and Kate, River Heights; and Jan and Michael Shaw, Smithfield; twenty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by his four siblings: Alvin Eugene, Paula and Leon Savage, Harold Brent and Ruth, and Debra Brunson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother-in-law Larry Brunson and sister-in-law Denise Forand.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Willow Valley/17th Ward chapel, 825 North 200 West, Logan Utah. There will be a viewing held on Sunday evening, August 11, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, and at the church on Monday from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment is in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared online at Allen Mortuary.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Logan Regional Hospital, ICU, Medical Unit and TCU, and Intermountain Home Care and Hospice. Thanks for taking care of our dad.
