Seymour Jay Nielsen, 88, passed quietly into his loving Heavenly Father’s realm on June 8, 2013 at Logan Regional Hospital. He was born December 30, 1924, in Hyrum, Utah, son of Arnold William and Ada Crista Nielsen. He grew up in Hyrum working with his father on their farms and graduating from South Cache High School. He served an LDS mission in Denmark. He attended BYU and Utah State University and he graduated from LDS Institute. He married the love of his life, Aldeen Skidmore, on June 20, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He spent his life in Hyrum, moving to Logan after all of his children had left the nest. His life’s work was farming and raising a large family. He raised beef cattle and many crops. Later, he went into the dairy business. He taught his family about the rewards of hard work and provident living. He loved his country and his community. He served on the Hyrum City Council, and was president of the Hyrum and the Blacksmith Fork water boards. He was the president of the Farm Bureau and was a director of the Farmers Home Administration. After retiring from farming he dabbled a bit in real estate. He loved his wife and family, farming, horses, buying new cars, grocery shopping, gadgets, motorcycle rides and traveling. He was blessed with a keen mind his entire life. He kept up with new technology and enjoyed his computer and iPad. He shunned flying because he wanted to see everything on the way. His family enjoyed many family vacations, day trips, picnics in the canyon, and a scoop of ice cream every Sunday night. He had a deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many capacities including Bishop and Stake Patriarch. He was truly a beacon of light to his family as well as many others. We are so thankful that families are forever.
He is survived by his wife Aldeen, children, Lorie (Kim) Walters, Jay (Bonnie) Nielsen, Ruth (Randy) James, Trudy (Bill) Hatfield, Eric (Bonnie) Nielsen, Mary (Mike) Clark, Jane Nielsen, Joan (Mont) Campbell, Krisie (Chad) McBride, and Katie (Rob) Hoggan, 40 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren, his sister, Janice (Fred) Green, brothers-in-law, Gene Burch, and Nard (Beth) Allen and sister-in-law, Marie (David) Patterson.
