Shanna Lou McFarland passed away on Sunday March 10th in Sacramento California. She was born October 7th 1936 in Redmond Utah, the second of Arnelda and Wallace Poulson’s six children. She grew up in Redmond, attending North Sevier High School where she served as Student Body Vice President. She attended Utah State University in Logan, where she met her husband, Larry McFarland. They were married in the Manti Temple on July 27th 1956.
Shanna was kind, loving and caring and taught her children to be kind to, and serve, others. She was talented, artistic, and crafty. Shanna was an accomplished cake decorator who created custom Wedding cakes for family, friends, and professionally. She was a creative seamstress that sewed numerous dresses and shirts for the family and others. She passed many of her talents to various children creating shared interests.
Shanna and Larry began their family in Logan Utah, where their first two children were born, and then moved to California in 1959, where they have lived since. In El Centro, four more children joined the family. In 1971 they moved to Huntington Park, living there for 4 years, followed by 3 in DiGiorgio, in the central valley. In 1978 home was Clovis where Shanna applied her decorating skills at Karsh’s and Safeway Bakeries. The final move in California was to Rancho Cordova in 1983, where they lived until she passed. Her love of people and the ease she felt in interacting with them helped her to be a very successful tele-marketer in the Sacramento area, earning vacation trips. She continued to create detailed cakes until she lost her dexterity through strokes. Shanna suffered heart attacks and strokes that debilitated her for the last 20 years of her life
As a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served many years in the Relief Society, enthralled her sons and other boys as a creative Cub Scout Den Leader, and taught gospel classes. She derived a lot of joy and fulfillment in service, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and found it easy to share that joy and peace with others. Shanna leaves a legacy of love service and charity to her family and all those she interacted with.
Shanna is survived by her husband Larry McFarland and their children Michael and Kristina McFarland, Tama and Michael Clark, Merrill and Kathy McFarland, Neena and Ken May, Robert McFarland, and Curtis and Christy McFarland, with 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She will be missed, but we are happy she is relieved of pain and enjoying her family reunion on the other side.
