WELLSVILLE, UTAH - Sharon Volate Kroksh Poppleton, our cherished and beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, passed away from complications of heart disease on 16 March 2011. She wanted to spend what time she had left in her home and as a family we agreed to respect her wishes.
Mother was born February 8, 1931 to Grace Thompson and William Kroksh in Elwood, UT. She was the third sister of four, LaNae (deceased), Wilma, and Vikky. She attended elementary school in a little, four room, red brick school house in Elwood until 8th grade and graduated from Bear River High School and 3 year seminary.
Mother met the love of her life, Reese Squires Poppleton, on a blind date when he returned home from World War II. They were married in Elko, NV on November 2, 1949. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of five children, Lynda, Daniel, Chyral, Randy and Robyn. The family has since grown to include 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with 1 great grandchild on the way, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mother was at stay at home mom until we graduated and then she went to work as a checker for Alt's Market in Wellsville and the Hyrum Market. She retired to take care of Dad until he passed away on May 22, 1992.
Mother had a very strong testimony that never faltered and served in many capacities for the LDS church as primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, MIA teacher, chorister, Sunday school secretary, music, drama and speech director for the MIA and was a member of the choir for 50 years. She completed an 18 month mission for the church starting April 4, 2003 in the Family and Church History Department in Salt Lake City, UT.
Her hobbies included crocheting baby blankets for all the newborns, afghans, sewing, gardening, dancing with Dad and driving her little red mustang. She belonged to the Gayette Club and the Utah Daughters of Pioneers.
Mother was an example of hard work, unconditional love, and great strength to her family. She will be greatly missed but we know she is in a better place with Dad.
She is survived by her children: Lynda (Doniel) Larsen of Logan, UT, Daniel (Jackie) and Mt. Sterling, Chyral (Steve) Haramoto of Elwood, UT, Randy of Mt. Sterling, and Robyn (Dale) Nelson of Mt. Sterling; her sisters Wilma Anderson and Vikky Chadaz and by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and her husband.
A special thanks goes to Arlin and Joyce Murray for the 50 years of their love and special friendship they showed Mom. The family would also like to thank Dr. Huffman, his staff, Sunshine Terrace, Alpine Hospice and Allen-Hall Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 21 at the Wellsville 3rd Ward Chapel, 40 West 200 South in Wellsville. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday evening, March 20 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St in Logan and from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to services on Monday at the church.
