Shirley Whinham Bartschi, age 87, passed away on December 24, 2012, peacefully in Brigham City, Utah.
Shirley was born in Montpelier, Idaho, on November 22, 1925 to James A. and Rosella Grunig Whinham. Shirley and her loving husband, Dean, were married July 7, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. Just a week later, Dean was sent to serve in World War II. Dean's release from duty came in April 1946, and that was a very happy day for both of them!
Shirley and Dean moved to Cache Valley in 1987. They held many positions in the LDS church. Shirley was a Primary teacher for 17 years. Dean and Shirley's favorite position was serving in the Logan LDS Temple for 10 and a half years as ordinance workers.
Shirley was the proud parent of four daughters. They are Marilyn Lugtu, Providence; Janette Bartschi, Ogden; Susan and Les Bowman, North Salt Lake; and Kathy and Doug Price, Brigham City. Shirley often said she spent 40 years of her life being a mother. She will never stop being a mother as we know that is a blessing that continues forever. She was preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters, Lucille, Francis, Louise, and Virginia. Her younger brother, James, currently resides in Roy, Utah. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Dean, and 4 daughters, 2 son-in-laws, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank everyone who gave time and support to Shirley the last few years.
