Shirley Dunn

d. April 8, 2012

Shirley Nadine Peterson Dunn, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday April 7, 2012, in Bountiful UT. She was born on November 18, 1925, in Trinidad, Colorado to Carl Alfred Peterson and Kathryn Mae Reinoehl. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 16. Her family moved to Reno NV when she was 17. She worked as a secretary for the Army Air Corps after high school. During this time she was able to use her love and talent for dancing to perform at the NCO club with a very talented Navy dancer. She met the love of her life, Irving Schenk Dunn during this time. He proposed to her, and when his orders came to be shipped out Shirley’s relatives put together a beautiful wedding and they were married the next day. After the war they moved to Logan UT where they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Shirley went to work for Everton’s Publishing in Nibley and fell in love with doing genealogy work.
Her greatest loves in life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The love of researching family history and constant work on genealogy came to define her. She served in many capacities in the LDS church: Primary, MIA, RS, Genealogy Teacher and a genealogy missionary for 10 years with her husband, Irv.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irv, parents, three children (two infant deaths and Jim, her fair-haired son). She is survived by three daughters, Eloise (Lauren) Wilhelm of Laramie WY (currently in Hannover Germany on a mission for the LDS Church), Kathryn Kramer of Pocatello ID, and Carolyn Harmon of Clinton UT, and daughter-in-law, Abby House (wife of Jim Dunn). She also is survived by 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in her honor Thursday, April 12th, 2012 at noon at the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East in Logan. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
The family gives a special thanks to Gary and Vernett Jones, and all those who stood by Shirley.
