Shirley Maughan Leishman Jensen, our loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She was born on June 21, 1931, in Wellsville, Utah. Shirley was a twin to Sherry Tibbetts, and a daughter of Elmer Archibald Leishman and Rena Poppleton Maughan.
She grew up on a farm with two brothers and six sisters and understood the value of hard work. Her early school years were in Wellsville. In 1950 along with three of her sisters and her brother, Shirley graduated from South Cache High School, they all graduated together in the same year.
She married Ronald Ladle Jensen on June 5, 1950, in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children Peggy (Doug), Dennis (Sheila), Susanne (Mark), Gordon, Kaylene (Burke), and Craig who all still reside in Cache Valley. She was blessed with 17 grandkids, 43 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
She spent a lot of her younger years helping her father on the farm. Her mother taught her that you should always be doing handwork. She especially cherished her weekly quilting luncheon together with her sisters, aunts, and cousins. In her spare time, she made quilts for her grandchildren. She also did custom quilting for others. She enjoyed making Christmas candy every year, for family and friends. Shirley spent many nights at the ballpark watching the softball games with her husband and family. She loved picking chokecherries for jam and served it with her favorite homemade hot rolls.
Shirley was always willing to help and serve others. She was a member of the Red Cross. She always had a cheerful smile and showed it most when she was visiting with her grandkids that she loved dearly.
Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses, Peggy Ann Jenson (Douglas) College Ward; Dennis Jay Jensen (Sheila) Mendon; Susanne Moore (Mark) Mendon; Gordon Lynn Jensen Mendon; Kaylene Pitcher (Burke) Lewiston; and Craig Ronald Jensen Mendon. She is also survived by her siblings Courtney, Kay, Renee and Linda. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, her parents Elmer and Rena Leishman, her baby brother Thomas and her sisters Elna, LaVay, Sherry, and Rena.
The family wishes to thank all of those who have been generous and thoughtful providing food, phone calls and encouragement on her behalf. A special thanks to Intermountain Hospice.
