LOGAN, UTAH: Shirley Lenore Jones Rees, 83, of Logan, UT, passed away June 18, 2015. Shirley was born February 22, 1932, in Chinook, Montana to Earl Clark Jones and Florence Ann Baker. She grew up in Chinook and Garland, UT. Upon graduating from Bear River High School in 1950, she attended Weber College and received an Associates Degree in 1952. She then attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Shirley met E. Grant Rees at a church dance in Long Beach, CA and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 16, 1960.
She taught school in Tooele, UT, Salt Lake City, UT, Long Beach, CA, Upper Marlboro, MD, and Idaho Falls, ID. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Retired Teachers’ Association.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. She served in many capacities including Primary, Mutual, Relief Society and Sunday School. She served with Grant as missionaries at the Idaho Falls Family History Center and at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor’s Center.
Shirley is survived by her husband Grant, sons Kevin (Darcy) Rees of Providence, UT, and Steven (Lori) Rees of Mesa, AZ, a sister Barbara Hamann of Bellingham, WA, two grandchildren and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Kay Fazende (Dave) of Moses Lake, WA, and a brother Morris (Joanne) Jones of Connell, WA.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Logan 43rd Ward, 1255 N. 600 E. in Logan, UT. There will be a viewing from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, UT and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. condolences and memories may be shared online at
