Providence – Shirley Kathleen Garrett Schwartz, 82, passed away peacefully, August 16, at her home in Providence, Utah.
She was born march 1, 1926, in Mechanicsville, Virginia, to Henry Ballard Garrett and Julia Virginia Blanche Clarke. She grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She served an LDS mission in the Central-Atlantic States in 1949. She married Ephraim Ross Schwartz in the Salt Lake Temple on June 5, 1953.
Shirley was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted her life serving in many positions, including serving as an ordinance worker in the Washington D.C. Temple with her husband. But her greatest love was genealogy work. She belonged to the Virginia Genealogical Society, the King & Queen Co., Va. Historical Society, and served as President of The Decendants of the Honorable Henry Fox and His Wife, Anne West.” She cherished her family and loved having them around her.
She loved traveling all over the world and especially loved trips to the Holy Land and traveling back to Virginia to do family history research.
She is survived by step-brother Bobbie Vaughan, son, Lynn Schwartz (Gale), and daughters ; Cheri Sagers (Hal), Robin Anderson (Brett), Vickie Lafferty (Vince), Jana Obray (Tom), Tina Schwartz, 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband “Eph”, parents and step-father Ralph Vaughan, brothers: Chester and O’Brien Garrett and Jerry Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, August 21 at the Providence 10th Ward, 355 Canyon Road, Providence, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 20, from 6-8 P.M. at the Allen Mortuary, 34 East Center St., Logan, Utah and from 10:30-11:30am prior to the service at 12:00.
