Shirley Marie Maughan Gardner

October 19, 1925 — February 7, 2007

Shirley Marie Maughan Gardner passed away February
7, 2007 in Logan Utah after a brief illness.
Shirley was born October 19,1925 in Logan Utah, a
daughter of Reese Perkins Maughan and Edna Larsen
Maughan. She grew up in Logan, attended City Schools,
graduating from Logan High School in 1943. She also
attended Utah State University and the University of
Cincinnati.
She traveled throughout the United States living in
Ohio, Arizona, California and Alabama and later
residing in Cedar City and Salt Lake City, Utah where
she was employed in banking management at First
Security Bank.
Shirley married A Wendel Gardner on December 21,1967
in the St George Temple then moved to Carrollton,
Georgia.
She was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints where her husband served as Branch
President. She enthusiastically wore many hats
necessary to help a small branch of fifteen grow into
a thriving ward. She served in every organization,
including twice as Relief Society President. She and
Wendel served together as full-time ordinance workers
in the Atlanta Temple from 1992 to 2004 where her
gracious presence was an inspiration to all who knew
her.
One of Shirley’s greatest assets was her keen
perceptive mind. She embraced genealogy while living
in Salt Lake City and her meticulous research evolved
into the rich legacy of Family History that she leaves
for her family. She was also active in the Carroll
County Georgia Genealogy Society as their president
and editing the newsletter.
Her husband, Wendel, preceeded her in death in 2005,
In 2006 she moved to Logan and resided in the Logan
House until the time of her death.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen Silver of
Sandy, Utah, nieces and nephew as well as a circle of
loving cousins and extended family.
There will be a viewing Saturday evening Feb. 10
from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary
in Logan, Utah. Graveside services will be conducted
on Monday, Feb. 12 at 1:00 P. M. at the Cedar City
Cemetery.
