Spencer F. Klomp

March 13, 1942 — May 29, 2013

Spencer Foulger Klomp 1942 - 2013
On May 29, 2013 our beloved husband, father and grandfather returned to his Father in Heaven at the young age of 71 after a heroic battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Spencer was born on March 13, 1942 to his loving parents, Kathleen Foulger and Spencer Jackson Klomp, in Ogden, Utah. He was the oldest of five remarkable children. From early on he had a strong work ethic; at the age of 9, Spence started his own lawn care business charging $2 per yard. “Autograph your work with Excellence!” was his motto. He also worked many hours at his father’s Homer and Klomp parking lots in Ogden. One of his prized creations was his homemade, gas-driven go-cart constructed of airplane tires and a wooden frame. As he drove around Ogden, even the local police would pull up and say, “Nice job, kid.”
Education was important in Spence’s life. He attended Ogden High School and Weber State College. During his youth he received a small chemistry set which sparked his interest in science, and opened many doors, (wink to Ralph). He pursued his passion in chemistry and attended the University of Utah, where he graduated in 1966 with his bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
He married his sweetheart, Janice Elaine Parkinson, on May 5, 1961 and shared over 40 years of joyful marriage. They were blessed with six wonderful children. Spence and Jan, along with their children, were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple in 1981. The family resided in Ogden, Layton and for over 33 years in Providence, Utah. Janice passed away January 12, 2002. Spence found joy again and married Karen Marie Offerdahl on July 11, 2003 at his Providence home, surrounded by close family members. Karen proved to be a caring and constant companion, bringing him much loving comfort during his final days here on earth.
Spence opened his first pharmacy in Logan in the late 1970s. His talent for business and a love for his customers created a unique environment for success. Spence knew and cared about his customers personally, knowing many by their first names. It was his personal touch that led to the expansion of his pharmacies to serve many in the Cache Valley area. These included Spence’s South Pharmacy, Smithfield Community Pharmacy and currently open Spence’s North Pharmacy and Tremonton Community Pharmacy.
Spence was an active member of the LDS church. His faithful callings included executive secretary, first counselor in the bishopric, High Priest and other duties throughout the years. His strong testimony of the Gospel will live on through his children and grandchildren.
Spence loved to play the piano and provide music for his family and church members. His love of music started early in his childhood; he was always grateful to his mother for the many hours she sat next to him on the piano bench while he practiced.
His love for his fellowman was evident through service to others. His family and friends were greatly blessed by his example in words and deed; he was always compassionate, gracious and charming.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Klomp, her 7 children and his own 6 children and their spouses: Jeffrey Spencer Klomp (Shelly) of Logan, UT; Joan Klomp Graf (Troy) of Santa Clara, UT; Paul Parkinson Klomp (Lauri) of Sugarland, TX; Kristin Klomp Chambers (Neal) of Providence, UT; Patrick Parkinson Klomp (Marie) of Preston, ID; Shaun Parkinson Klomp (Karianne) of Millville, UT. His 4 siblings and their spouses: Ralph Klomp (Anne) of Denver, CO; Gregory Klomp (Karen) of Mamaroneck, NY; David Klomp (JoAnn) Kaysville, UT; Kathleen Austin (Rick) of Layton, UT.
He is also survived by 54 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, and his parents.
