Stanley David Neilson passed away in Salt Lake City at the Caresource Hospice on July 25, 2007 of multiple medical complications following open heart surgery he had this past January. Stanley was born February 4, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Robert and Lucy Porter Neilson. He was the youngest of 5 children, Robert, Margaret, John & Tom.
The family moved to Evanston, Wyoming during his preschool years where they rode out the depression.
He attended college at the University of Wyoming, while there he met and married his wife of almost 60 years Elma Jean Pendleton, at that time he was a sophomore and she was a freshman. They were married Aug 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. He then transferred to BYU where he graduated with a degree in Education and History.
Then he went on to teach High School, work for Autrey Brothers and then was employed by Michelin Tire Corporation for his last 30 working years. During his working career he live in Kanab, Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, Hyde Park, Utah, Longmont Colorado, Lake Oswego, Oregon and then when he retired in 1991 moved back to Hyde Park, Utah.
Stanley was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints.
He was called as a Bishop 3 times as well as many other church positions.
The Church was always very important to him!
His hobbies were: woodworking, gardening, and genealogy.
Stanley is survived by his wife Elma Jean Neilson, sons: David, Jan, Brian & Larry. He is also survived by 20 grand children and 4 great grand children, and his older brother Tom Neilson of Thomasville, GA.
He will be missed every day by all of us who were lucky enough to be a part of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, July 30, 2007 at the Hyde Park Center Street Chapel, 63 East Center Street. Friends may call at the Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan on Sunday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. and at the Church on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m prior to services. Interment will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery.
