Stephen John Allan, age 68, passed away from lymphoma November 28, 2017 at his home in Providence, Utah. Steve was born in Logan, Utah on May 20, 1949 to Alda Rees and Glen Leishman Allan. He has five siblings Glen (deceased), Lynda Campbell (Kaysville, UT), Norman Allan (New Harmony, UT), JaNae Hay (Hillsboro, OR), and Robert Allan (Logan, UT). He was proud of his family name and often tutored others on the correct spelling of ALLAN.
In reporting his mission to Brazil, his future wife was in the audience. He married Vicki Hurst, June 1, 1972 in the Logan Temple. They are the parents of five wonderful children. Lori (Kram) Allen, Kimberly Allan (David Hall), Trisha (Brandon) Tucker, Gregory Allan, and Michelle (Ben) Miskin. They have 14 grandchildren.
He received his BS in mathematics from Utah State University in 1973 and his MS (1976) and PhD (1979) from Iowa State University in Computer Science. He was a professor of computer science at Colorado State University for seven years, and at Utah State University for 26 years. He retired in 2012. He loved teaching and treasured his relationships with students and faculty.
Church service was always very important to Steve. Days before he died he asked, “Do you think I will ever have another church calling?” Vicki responded, “No. Not on this side.” to which he said, “Will you tell the bishop?”
Steve loved people. He had an uncanny ability to remember the names and faces of people.
Steve was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. His favorite memories were boating with the kids at Bear Lake or attending his grandkids’ activities. Steve loved his family and was so proud of them. Steve lived life without regrets. He enjoyed music, boating, golf, 4-wheeling, racket ball, cycling, skiing, walking, reading, games, and food.
A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah on December 1st, 6-8 pm. The funeral will be held in the Fox Ridge Ward building at 155 North 100 East Providence, Utah at 2 p.m., Saturday December 2nd. There will be a viewing at the Fox Ridge Ward building preceding the funeral on Saturday, 12:30-1:30. Interment will take place in the Logan City Cemetery.
