LOGAN, UTAH: Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Stephen Edgar Price, 75, passed away on September 4, 2010. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Los Angeles, Ca. He was the oldest child of Howard and Lois Nelson Price. He loved body surfing at the beach, fishing in the surf and riding his horse. He graduated from Bellflower High School in 1953. He joined the Navy and became a Petty Officer First Class at age 22. He served aboard ship in the Far East, visiting many ports in the Pacific. Stationed in Japan he met and married Ryuko Sato in Yokohama on July 8, 1957. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple and had four children. Ryuko died in 1969. While in Japan he received a black belt in Aikido. He was fluent in both Japanese and Spanish.
Stephen received his electrical engineering degree from West Coast University in 1967 and worked as a research engineer at North American Rockwell where he helped design NASA’s first lunar lander. He was president of Inex Inc. a mid-sized tech company in Denver, Co. where he developed a digital bottle inspection system. He held several patents and travelled extensively. He also attended Harvard Business School.
Stephen married Arlene Budge in the Salt Lake Temple in 1976.
Active in the LDS church, he held many callings such as scoutmaster, mission leader, and bishopric counselor. He enjoyed working with youth often teaching them Aikido. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and loved to spend time with family. He was a natural leader, hard worker, and a wise problem solver. He had a good sense of humor. Family, friends, and employees sought his advice and he enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, and his six children: Carol (Stanford) Kekauoha, Sherry (Ward) Livingston, Stephen (Debbie) Price, Jana Shriber, Michelle Shriber and Steve (Michelle) Shriber. Stephen has 13 grandchildren.
He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters: Daniel Michael Price, Colleen Root, Terry (Carol) Price, Mary Jo (Phil) Hall, Suzanne (John) Minor, Lynn (Barney) Henry, Sherry (Chris) Christensen, and David Price.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ryuko, daughter Karen Jean, brother Howard, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept 11, 2010 at noon, with a viewing from 10:30 - 11:30 am, at the Hillcrest 2nd Ward chapel, 875 N. 1500 E. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery with military honors. Condolences may be expressed online at
