Steven Thompson Phillips, 73, passed away at his home with his loving family around him on December 30, 2023. He suffered with Pulmonary Fibrosis and COPD.
Steven was born September 29, 1950 in Logan, Utah to Spencer Saurey Phillips and Thelma Thompson. He was the 2nd son born to this union. He had a Sister and Brother from his Father's previous marriage.
He attended Logan City Schools, graduating from Logan High, where he played football and the coronet in the band. He also was in the ROTC program. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed playing church ball when he was a young man.
He learned at a young age the value of hard work. He always said "I worked hard, and I played just as hard". If the statement "Whoever dies with the most toys" was true, he may not have won but he was at the top.
As a boy, his family spent a lot of time camping, fishing, and meeting with other families at reunions. He enjoyed his time in Clarkston with his grandparents and his Uncle Dallas on the farm, hauling hay, milking cows, and working in cement with his Uncle Vance Thompson. He made lots of friends throughout his life and had no trouble doing this.
On October 16, 1969 he married Mary Williams of Young Ward. They had 2 children, Jennifer Luzon (deceased), and Bradley Steven. He loved his family and provided for them very well. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved taking his family camping, fishing and other adventures. We drag raced, boated, went trap shooting, and other things he could think up to do. He loved helping young people develop and improve their skills.
He spent many summers taking nieces and nephews camping and boating, teaching them to water ski and shoot. He was President of Golden Spike gun club in Brigham City and an avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited as well as a representative.
While working at Thiokol he helped build a snowcat for President Gerald Ford to take on ski trips. He worked for LMC building and servicing snow cats all over the US, and some foreign countries. His last job was with Whitaker Construction in Brigham City. He made many lifelong friends there and loved working there.
Since his retirement in 2016, he spent most mornings with his Mother. They would discuss anything and everything, from politics to sports. She said when he passed "who am I going to argue with now?". He enjoyed and looked forward to his time at the Pitcher/Elbert barns in Smithfield, playing cards and BS'ing with friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter (Jennifer Luzon), grandparents, father, brother(Harris), mother and father-in-law, a brother-in-law, and a nephew.
He is survived by his mother, his wife of 54 years, son Bradley (Brandie) of Newton, brothers R. Spence (Patty) of Ogden, and Gary (Karla) of Pueblo Co, sister Carolyn Cal., grandchildren Jasmine (Brandon) Lafleur, Hayden (Janeena) Ashlie (Trevor) Loghry, and Colten (Challis) Hill. He has 7 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many loved nieces and nephews.
The Family would like to thank Heidi (Primrose Hospice) for the love and care she has given Steve the last 2 months, as well as Dr. James Mathews and Dr. Gary Alexander (Tanner Clinic).
He asked that there be a graveside service. It will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 am at the Clarkston Cemetery (W 11000 N, Clarkston, UT 84305 ). There will be a viewing on Friday night January 5th from 6-8pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Center Street in Logan.
A lunch will be provided by the Hyrum 9th Ward Relief Society at the Hyrum LDS Church 455 E 100 S.
West 11000 North Clarkston, UT.
