With heavy hearts, and great sorrow we announce the passing of our beautiful and loving mother, Billie “Sue” Cox Benson. She passed away on Wednesday April 26, 2023 in Logan, Utah. Sue was born in Cooper, Texas on January 27, 1940 to William and Ester Ree Cox.
Sue lost her mother at the tender age of 5. She grew up an only child in Maljamar, New Mexico. A turning point in Sue’s life was when she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 16 years old. She met her husband Clayne V. Benson while he was serving an LDS mission in New Mexico. They kept in touch and later married for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah LDS temple on February 19, 1960.
Sue became very close with her new mother in-law Mary Benson, and felt like she was the mother she never had.
Clayne and Sue were blessed with four daughters, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. They raised their family in Richmond, UT where Clayne taught school and Sue worked for First Security and Wells Fargo Bank for more than 30 years.
After retirement Clayne and Sue spent their winter months in Yuma, Arizona and also resided in Logan, UT.
Sue loved the desert, reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
Our mother was a valiant cancer survivor. She never complained and continued to work through her treatment, she was a strong example to us all.
Sue has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and served many callings throughout her life.
Sue is survived by her four daughters, Darla Benson - Brigham City, UT; Lori (Ray) Peterson - Mendon, UT; Debbie (Chuck) Weaver - Taylorsville, UT; and Shelly (Casey) Andrus - Richmond, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband.
Our mother was a bright light and had a contagious smile. She will be missed.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Legacy House of Logan, Tender Care Hospice and all family and friends for their love, support and critical care.
