Susan Weston Saunders returned home to her Father in Heaven on December 14, 2022 when she lost her short, but valiant, fight against cancer.
Susan was born on July 11, 1950 to Herbert Roscoe Weston and Anita Myrtle Brenckle Aebischer Weston. She married her high school sweetheart, Steven Lynn Saunders, on September 15, 1971.
She is survived by her husband, her four children: Jared (Kent Ricks) Saunders, Jocelyn (Orin) Midzinski, Paul Saunders, and Megan (Jillian) Saunders. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Noah, Ethan (Brooklyn), Kaleb, Cohen, Kazia, Lily, Berkley, Grayson, Beckett, Sloane, Harper, Mason, and her 4 siblings. Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
Susan loved genealogy work and spent countless hours compiling her family lines. She connected deeply to her mother's Swiss heritage and, at the age of 41, she went back to school to learn German so she could read her grandparents love letters. Susan earned her BA from USU and taught music, English, and German at Logan High School and then Adele C. Young in Brigham City.
Susan worked as a school teacher until her health caused her to retire early. Her liver started to fail and there was little hope of a transplant until a new option became available. Susan was only the second live-donor liver transplant recipient in the state of Utah. Her living donor was her son, Jared. We are all so grateful to Jared for his sacrifice that gave us more than six extra years with her.
Susan was a fantastic piano and organ player and thoroughly loved music. She also loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing furniture and furnishings for many years with her husband, Steve, in their small company Rocky Comfort. She also loved to sew quilts both for the humanitarian center and just for fun with her younger sister Anita.
Susan's real legacy was her love of everyone. She truly saw people as God sees them and she was able to connect with everyone she met. Susan was a beautiful, funny, sometimes silly, always talented, hard working, loving wife, mom, grandma, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her many family and friends.
