Logan, Utah: Sylvan Forsberg, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday November 16. He was born September 1, 1920 in a two-room log cabin in Daniels, Idaho. His parents were Frank Louis and Margritha Gilgen Forsberg. He and his twin brother were the youngest of eleven children.He spent most of his youth in Logan, attending schools there. Sylvan had an outstanding reputation as a star softball pitcher on many valley teams. After graduating from Logan High School, he and his brother were the first Utah twins to join the Navy during World War II. Sylvan served on the battleship Nevada and as a Gunner's Mate aboard the destroyer Mullany. Upon completion of his military service, Sylvan returned to Logan and attended Utah State Agricultural College, earning degrees in Carpentry and Industrial Technology. Sylvan met his sweetheart, Donna Eppich, at church and they fell in love. They were married June 7, 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple, and were blessed with three children.
Sylvan was a man of many talents. He enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent much of his youth in the beautiful canyons surrounding Cache Valley. Sylvan was exceptional at carpentry and woodworking and together he and Donna remodeled their home. Sylvan worked for Utah Power and Light Co. for 32 years and retired in 1982. He and Donna enjoyed temple work, traveling, golfing, and square dancing together.
Sylvan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. He had a great sense of humor, with the right remark at the right time and always made those around him laugh. He enjoyed music, especially performed by his grandchildren, and had a beautiful singing voice himself. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals and had many pets. He was very kind and generous and will be greatly missed.

Sylvan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna; three children, Lee (Ann) Forsberg of Paulden, AZ; Marjorie (Gregory) Borchert of Olathe, KS; Janell (Russell) Durrant of Whitney, ID; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Golden of Nibley, UT and Leo (Carma) of Bountiful, UT; and Silky, his cat. He was preceded in death by 1 great-granddaughter, Emma Borchert; his parents, Frank and Margritha Forsberg; 3 sisters, Katie, May, and Dorothy; 5 brothers, Roy, Elmer, Harold, Melvin, and David.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday Nov. 24, at the Mount Logan Stake Center 565 East 100 South Logan, UT,(23rd Ward building) and will be conducted by Bishop Chris Anderson. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM Sunday Nov. 23 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Logan, UT and from 10:30-11:30 AM on Monday Nov. 24 at the Mount Logan Stake Center prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
