Tacy Chambers Ballam

Tacy Chambers Ballam (90) passed away early Sunday, November 29, 2015 in St. George, Utah of natural causes at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 26, 1925 in Smithfield, Utah, the daughter of George and Tacy Toolson Chambers, the sixth of eight children. Her father was a farmer. While growing up she worked on the farm, thinning, hoeing, and topping beets, riding a horse to drive cows to the pasture and back and often racing a train if one was passing by, tromping hay, riding the derrick horse, picking up potatoes, picking beans, caring for the garden and mowing the lawn. She was a good horsewoman and was selected as Smithfield City Centennial Queen and rode her horse in community parades in 1947.She graduated from North Cache High School in 1943. During the summer of her junior and senior years she lived in Ogden working as a secretary at the Ogden Hill Field Supply Depot during World War II. She graduated from Utah State University, Logan, in 1947, with a B.S. Degree in English and BusinessEducation. While in college she worked two more summers in Ogden and one in Salt Lake City where shelived in the L.D.S Church Beehive House. During her college years she worked part time in the library andin the Registrar's office, one summer as his executive secretary. By working she paid all the expenses for her college education. She was very independent, energetic, clean and neat and exacting in whatever she did.She was a member of the USU Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the USU Army ROTC Sponsor's Corps.She married Oral Lamb Ballam of Richmond on December 29, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple. She resided in Smithfield, Logan, Bountiful, Kaysville, and St. George Utah; Palmyra, New York and Los Angeles, California.She began her teaching career in 1947 at her Alma Mater, North Cache High School where she taughtEnglish, shorthand and type. She also taught at the Smithfield Summit Elementary School, teaching kindergarten, first grade, but most of that time teaching the third grade. She retired in 1987 after 30 years of teaching. An excellent teacher, she loved the children and taught with the firm belief that every child should be helped to reach his or her full potential regardless of their circumstances.A life-long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in allorganizations and all her life as a Relief Society visiting teacher. She and her husband served as President
and Matron of the Logan Temple, 1963-1966. This temple service was one of the most joyous experiences of her life working with all of the lovely sisters. They were so precious to her. She then served as an ordinanceworker in the Logan and Bountiful Temples. She and her husband served a short-term summer mission serving in the Palmyra New York Temple. She spent 12 years in temple service.She was a charter and active member of the Smithfield Community Service Club for 55 years. Sheserved as President of the Cache Mayors' Wives Association. She and her husband, Oral, received aSpecial Citizen of Smithfield Award.She is survived by her husband, Oral of 68 wonderful years, their five children, Gary Oral (Yolanda Jamamillo), Kansas City, MO, Debra Ann (Tony) Brog, St. George, Pamela Suzanne (Monte) Stephens, Fruit Heights, Julie (Rob) Potter, Farmington, and Craig George (Angela Nordick), Chantilly, VA; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth (Deane) Harrison, Hyrum, and a sister-in-law, Marianne Ballam, River Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ferris, and wife Ruth Clawson, sister Alice and husband Garnel Poppleton, brother Lennis and wife Drue Wilson Archibald, sister Aileen (Ray) Minkler sisters, sister Mary and husband Scott Bair, Faye (LeGrande) Shupe, and a brother-in-law Grant Ballam.She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She supported her husband in all his activities with love, patience, unflagging faith, and energy. She attended all her children's activities, cheering them on, whether in dance, singing, drama and musical performances, and sports. She was there whatever they did. She loved them dearly and would sacrifice anything for them. The same was true of all her grandchildren. Her greatest love was being with her family and sharing in their dreams, joys and sorrows, always as a support and comfort. Mom, we love you.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5th at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, UT at 12:00 pm. The viewing will be from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery, 300 East Center Street, Smithfield, Utah.
