Thomas Gordon Nelson was born June 14, 1928, in Park City, Utah, to Carl and Zula Gordon Nelson. He passed away peacefully at his home on February 6, 2017, with his children by his side. Tom attended BYU where he met his wife, Shirley Allred Nelson. They were married September 20, 1948, and raised five wonderful children. Tom taught band in the public schools in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. After retirement he enjoyed sharing his love for music and books with all of his grandchildren. He wanted his obituary to read, “He taught band for 48 years. He helped a lot of kids, and hopes he didn't hurt too many." Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley of sixty five years. He is survived by his children, Mike (Judy) of Murray, Eric (Farol) of Richmond, Tom (Jackie) of New York City, Lori (Stan) of Orem, and Chris of Logan. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Tom will be buried on February 13, in a private family ceremony. A public celebration of his life will be held in August (when travel is easier), and will be announced in this newspaper. Services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary of Logan, UT.
