Thomas Morrison Gantt, 64, died Tuesday, December the 18th, in his Logan home. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Patricia M. Gantt, also of Logan; his brother, Richard Gantt of Greensboro, North Carolina; his brother-in-law, David E. Miller, wife Daisy, and sister-in-law, Marian L. Miller, of Fairview, North Carolina; and by his many friends and colleagues who have been the recipients of his legacy of kindness.
Tom was born July 12th, 1943, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. At the time of his death, he was a pharmacist at Cane Creek Pharmacy in Fairview, North Carolina. His father, the Reverend P.C. Gantt, and his mother, Mildred Morrison Gantt, preceded him in death. Tom was a voracious reader, with a life-long love of science (especially space and flight), history, and nature. He had a wicked, dry sense of humor, and did not suffer fools gladly. He and his wife Pat were college sweethearts, and remained sweethearts for over forty-five years. No woman ever had a more supportive husband.
Tom was always a southern gentleman, in the best sense of the words. "His life was gentle, and the elements / So mix'd in him that Nature might stand up / And say to all the world 'This was a man.'"
