Tommy Mel Olson

Tommy Mel Olson, age 61, formerly of Preston ID, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on May 2nd, 2014, in West Valley City, UT.
He was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on October 18th, 1952 to the late Irving E. Olson and Jenn L. Murner. He graduated from Central High School in 1971 and from South Dakota Votech in 1988 with certificates in both Small Engine mechanics and Auto Mechanics.
He married Melody F. Nix in 1982. Together they relocated to Preston ID. in 1988. They had 3 children. They later divorced but remained good friends.
Tom was very patriotic and extremely proud of serving his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He loved fishing, Nascar, and teasing others. In younger years he was an avid camper. When anyone asked for help, he was among the first to respond.
Tom is survived by his children, Heidi M. Olson (Jon Davis, Nibley UT), Crystal J. Olson (Logan, Ut), R.J. Olson (Logan, Ut) His grandchildren Clayten B. Seamons and Gerby Davis (Heidi), his sisters, Kathie (Bill Baken, AZ), Shirley (David Savage, SD), and Debbie (Jon McCauley, VA), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces nephews, and cousins. He was preceeded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Services will be held at the Allen Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center St. In Logan, Ut on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. A viewing will be held at 10:30 till 11:30am. Internment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota. Graveside services will be held at that time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to "Wounded Warriors" or to the "VA Foster Care Foundation."
The family would like to thank David and Glenda Evans for the love and care they gave Tom in the last years of his life.
