MENDON, UTAH: Trudy Quinlan Barrett was tragically
taken from us on the evening of June 30, 2005 during
an automobile accident. Trudy has been called back to
her Heavenly Father.
Trudy left behind a loving husband Aaron Nikolai
Barrett and two darling sons.
Trudy was born March 27, 1976 to Wade and Afton
Quinlan of Mendon, Utah. She was the youngest of
eight children: Grant Quinlan, Tresa Hansen, Suzette
Heater, Derick Quinlan, Troy Quinlan, Jennilyn
McKinnon and Edward Van Quinlan. She was always
regarded as the joy of the family. Trudy graduated in
1994 from Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah
and later attended Utah Valley State College in Provo,
Utah, where she met her husband.
Trudy was married in the Logan LDS Temple to Aaron
Barrett of Gilbert, Arizona. Aaron and Trudy made
their home in Gilbert which is near Phoenix. Best of
friends from their first meeting, Trudy and Aaron
centered their lives around each other and their
beautiful boys, Adam age 6 and Tyler age 2.
They were actively involved in the Val Vista Ward and
Trudy served in many church and community capacities.
At the time of her death Trudy was serving as the
Young Women’s President in her ward. Aaron’s parents,
Brad and Elizabeth Barrett, and his siblings, Jana
Jensen, Kelli Wiltbank, Kyle Barrett and Allison
Barrett welcomed Trudy into their family with open
arms. She quickly became an integral and important
part of their family.
Trudy was a great lover of people. Trudy surrounded
herself with many close and dear friends. She could
frequently be found planning parties, get-togethers,
and service activities. Of Trudy’s many gifts perhaps
her greatest gift was a boundless capacity to love.
Trudy’s greatest joy in this life was her husband and
their two sons. Trudy loved doing any activity that
allowed her to be with her family. She was rumored to
be taking up golf merely for the opportunity it would
afford her to spend more time with her husband. Where
her family was concerned, no sacrifice was too great
for Trudy. She cheerfully supported her husband
through two college degrees and a failed business
without a word of complaint. Her two boys were blessed
with a mother who reveled in playing with them. Trudy
will be sorely missed by her three boys. Trudy’s love
of family included all of her extended family. She
made regular treks to Cache Valley, Utah to visit her
parents, family, and friends.
She has always had a love for serving young women.
Trudy attended Academy for Girls as a young woman and
eventually became an executive director of the
BYU-sponsored program. Trudy worked several years to
develop a new program called Retreat for Girls, a
Christ-centered spiritual development program for 12
to 14-year-old girls. The program’s first-year had
just completed the previous week at Utah State
University. Trudy’s impact on the lives of hundreds of
young women will continue on through Retreat for
Girls.
It is truly impossible to do justice to Trudy’s life
in such a short space. Trudy will always be
remembered for her sense of humor and her love of
life. Trudy, we love you dearly and you will be
missed greatly by those whose lives you have touched.
A funeral service in her honor will be held Wednesday
July 6, 2005 in the Mendon, Utah Stake Center located
at 476 South 100 East at 12:00pm. The service will
be pr oceeded by a viewing held at the stake center
