PROVIDENCE, UTAH: "Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from indomitable will." - Mahatma Gandhi
Tuyet Ngo Seethaler's life of giving and leadership drew to a close December 15, 2006, at the age of 62. This mother, grandmother, colleague, and friend confronted her life's challenges with courage and dignity. Yet even her indomitable strength was unable to conquer bone marrow cancer.
Tuyet was born in Trang Bang, Vietnam on December 7, 1944. She left Vietnam with her husband and children during the height of the war. Despite facing cultural and language barriers, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Utah State University in 1978. After teaching French and ESL at Logan High School for three years, she served as Extension Specialist and Director of Programs for New Americans at USU for 17 years. It is through this work at USU that she left her mark as community activist and leader, founding numerous programs to help settle thousands of refugees while preserving integral elements of their cultures.
In 1996, Tuyet moved to Charlotte, NC where she continued her commitment to the community through positions on the Mayor's International Cabinet and the CharlotteMecklenburg Community Relations Committee, amongst many others.
Tuyet was a loving mother of three and grandmother of four. She loved cooking, gardening, spending time with her family and bettering the lives of others. She will remain an inspiration for us all and is already greatly missed.
