Obituary for VALARIE NIELSEN CHAMBERS

Valarie Nielsen Chambers, 74 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Legacy House of Logan, Utah.

Valarie was born on October 24, 1936, to Blaine Loyd Nielsen and Ruby Cooper Nielsen in Hyrum,Utah, where she spent the majority of her life. She was the only daughter in a family of six children. She attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from South Cache High School. Her early years were spent on the family dairy farm where she developed a commitment to family and a strong work ethic.

Valarie married her high school sweetheart, Charles Steven Chambers on October 28, 1954 in Hyrum, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with four children. Steve passed away January 1, 1989. Valarie especially had fond and enjoyable memories of their rodeo years spent together. During this time they formed memorable and lasting friendships.

Having spent many years alone family and friends became the focus of her life. Valarie was the epitome of a loving, giving, devoted mother and grandmother. She gave much of her time in supporting the activities and events surrounding her family’s lives. She especially enjoyed attending horse shows, sporting events, dance revues, and the list goes on....

Valarie was an excellent homemaker and welcomed all into her home. She was a great cook and entertainer. Thanksgiving, Christmas, summer cookouts, birthday celebrations...were some of her favorite times. She also loved to read, work in her yard and keep her home neat and beautiful. She was a true giver and always put the needs of others above her own.

Due to her loving, caring nature, Valarie developed a close circle of friends that grew throughout her lifetime. Although she worked, she always found the time to nurture existing and new friendships. She particularly enjoyed her longtime association with her “club” friends who still meet each month.

She was exceptionally gifted in her command of the English language. She excelled in business courses in high school and applied this talent in creating a career as an editor. She worked with Everton Publishers for over 30 years working her way up to Editor of the Genealogical Helper. She was instrumental in spreading enthusiasm for ancestral research throughout the world. She was highly valued and appreciated by the many associates and friends she made over the years of her career. Mom could spell any word we asked her to and would let us know when we used improper grammar.

She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities throughout her life. She was faithful, devoted, and an example to all of selfless giving.

Valarie endured many challenges throughout her lifetime. Her courage, strength and determination kept her going. She was especially challenged in her later years with the debilitating disease of Alzheimers. As a family we express our deepest gratitude for the services of the staff at the Legacy House and Alpine Hospice. Thank you for your excellent care of our mother.

Valarie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Darwin, Dewayne, and Douglas Lee. She is survived by her four children Suzette (Randy) Low, Smithfield, Utah Shanna Larsen, Logan, Utah, Steven (Kristy) Chambers, Brigham City, Utah and Guy (Christy) Chambers, Trenton, Utah.12 grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, Justin, Bryce, Adam, Leia, Matthew, Jordan, Jessica, Taylor, Max and Katie as well as 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
