LOGAN, UTAH: Vance Thompson, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at his home in Logan. He was surrounded by his greatest joy, his family.
Vance was born on July 1, 1921 in Clarkston, Utah a son of Herman S and Annie Jardine Thomson. He grew up in Clarkston graduating from North Cache High School.
He entered the Us Army Air Force in 1942. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands on the Island of Attu. He dearly loved his country and was proud to receive the Presidential Unit Citation. After the war Vance fell in love with Lucy Ann Jensen. He said she was the prettiest girl in town. Vance and Lucy were married November 1, 1947. They moved to Logan in 1956 where he started his own concrete construction company. He always worked very hard to make sure his work would be something to be proud of. Vance was a member of the Logan 25th Ward. He loved the neighborhood children.
He also had a great love for his heritage. He enjoyed gardening, hunting with his sons, going to breakfast and spending time with his family. He was a friend to all. His greatest joy throughout life was his wife and family. We have been deeply touched by the love and concern shown to our husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; four sons and three daughters, Gregory Vance and Pam Thompson, Providence; Montey J Thompson, Nibley; Kristine and Curt Hone, Pleasant View, UT; Cindy and Craig Dunkley, Providence; Nancy and Heinz Mahler, Farmington; Scott Thompson, North Logan; Jack and KayLyn Thompson, Farr West,, UT, 36 grandchildren, 36 great -grandchildren, two sisters, Sybil Goodey, Thelma Phillips. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Brent Thompson, a brother, Herman, two sisters, Nina Lamb and Merle Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:00 pm in the Logan 25th Ward on Lauralin Drive. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary and at the church on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 am.
