With loved ones by her, our sweet mother, Verda Poppleton Hall, returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 1,2007. She was born to William Riggs Poppleton and Annie Larsen Poppleton in Wellsville, Utah, on November 23, 1916, the eighth of nine children, including four brothers: Roy, William, George, Marvin, and four sisters: Clora, Leola, Carrie, Celia. She grew up in a farm family where all had to do their share of work on the farm and in the home. Her home life was happy and she often spoke lovingly of her parents. Her siblings and their families were always dear to her.
She attended school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School.
She met the love of her life, Thomas Maughan Hall, and they were married on April 25, 1935, in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. Their love and devotion to each other brought much happiness and contentment to their lives. They enjoyed many happy times together, always including their children. We admired the strength and loving care Morn gave to our Dad the last years of his life as Alzheimer disease progressed. Her sweetheart passed away December 15, 1985.
They are the parents of two children and their spouses, Carol and Tony Baer, and Dee and Tana Hall. There are eight grandchildren and spouses and eleven great-grandchildren that brought much joy and happiness into her life. They are Connie (Mark) Panter and Colten; Zan Baer and Tylar; Grant Baer; Salli (Joe) Jeppson, Jordan, Joey, Shannon, and Scott; Kim Nostrom, Kaden and Chloe; Deeana Hall; Tom (Holli) Hall, Ty and Bryar; Kristee (Justin) Sinclair and Addison Ann. She dearly loved them and supported their many activities, taking great pride in their accomplishments. She so enjoyed seeing family and friends and meeting together for special occasions. These were her most happy times.
Her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker was happy and
rewarding. Her home was her castle and she often stated how she "loved her home" and living in Wellsville.
An active member of the LDS Church, she lived and loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many ward and stake positions. She enjoyed her callings and the many people she served with and continued serving as a Visiting Teacher Supervisor until this past summer.
Her hands were never idle and she is well-known for her beautiful embroidery work, crocheted doilies, and afghans. She enjoyed piecing quilts and was a beautiful quilter. Her children and grandchildren were all recipients of her beautiful quilts and handiwork.
Her skills in the kitchen were unmatched and there was no food better than Mom's. Family and friends have enjoyed her delicious food and wonderful homemade candies, especially her fudge. Honey candy was always available for our winter colds and coughs. She enjoyed canning and took great satisfaction in seeing empty bottles filled with fruits, vegetables, jams, and jellies.
Rides in the mountains and up to Hardware Ranch, family picnics in the canyon, and family get-togethers were the most favorite times for Mom. She was also an avid Utah Jazz fan.
She was a great example of love, service, and compassion, which she shared and gave unconditionally. Her influence will always be a part of our lives.
She is survived by her loving family and her younger sister, Celia Bailey.
Mom wanted her appreciation and love extended to her dear sister, Celia Bailey, her cousin, Wilma Hall, her hairdresser, Kathy Turner, and CNS nurses, Gina Price and Holly Egbert. Our family also extends heartfelt thanks to these special people.
