Verl H. Halverson

August 23, 1945 — June 2, 2016

Verl H. Halverson passed away June 2, 2016 at Ogden Regional Medical Center of natural causes. He was born August 23, 1945 in Marsh Valley, Idaho, the fifth of eight children born to Lewis M. Halverson and Florence Henderson Halverson. He lived in Downey, ID until about
1960 when the family moved to Richmond, UT, where he lived the remainder of his life. He attended and graduated from North Cache High School. During high school and shortly after he worked hauling milk, as a short order cook, and at Spackman Texaco before entering his professional career in heavy highway construction.
He married LaGene Spackman in November 1969 in Las Vegas, NV and together they got about the business of raising their children, Saunie and Darren. He worked for the same company for over 40 years, starting as laborer and working his way up to Project Superintendent. A job well done and his employees were his ultimate joys in his work.
He loved his family, his home and his community- all of which he served well. Along with LaGene, he was a former member of The Logan Dance Club and The Logan Golf &Country Club. He was a member of The Richmond Riders Club where he held every leadership position at one time or another. He served a number of years on The Richmond Black & White Days Horse Pulling Committee. He was also a member of The Intermountain Horse Pulling Association, which provided him the opportunity to tour the circuit with his Father-in-Law, LaMar Spackman. He enjoyed his horses, bird hunting with Sadie, deer hunting, snowmobiling, working in his yard and barn, doing backyard cookouts which always included his famous Dutch Oven Potatoes, golfing, his 1942 Ford tractor, feeding and watching the birds in the yard but most of all, his family. He had a sense of humor and love for a practical joke that nobody could rival.
Verl made many friends, both personal and professional as he traveled up and down the States of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. Many of these friends he stayed in contact with over the years, even after he had retired. He loved his employees and respected them so much.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and appreciation to the EMT and Paramedics that responded to our home that day and took care of him with so much gentleness, care, and concern, the administrative and medical staffs of Cache Valley Hospital Emergency Department, the Mountain Star Flight Paramedics and Helicopter Crew, and the Ogden Regional Medical
Center ICU through Traditional Care Units. All of these people showed so much kindness and respect to both Verl and to the family; they were all true and caring professionals.
He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, LaGene, his children, Saunie and Darren, brothers Robert (Rita) Halverson, Roy, UT, Boyd (Paulette) Halverson, Logan, UT, sister Bette Jo Twomey, Dallas, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Louis Dean Halverson, Terry Halverson, two sisters, Beverly Archibald and Mary Lou Roskelley, and his in-laws, LaMar and Janice Spackman.
At Verls request, a graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Richmond City Cemetery in Richmond, Utah. The family will receive guests at a viewing Monday night, June 6, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, June 7, from 12-1:30 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St, Logan, UT.
