Vern B. Andersen
Vern B. Andersen finally “shot through” like an Australian at age 93.
He was born in Brigham City, Utah, in 1919 and moved to Wellsville at age three. Raised with some of the choicest people in Cache Valley, Junior High in Wellsville, graduated South Cache in 1937, on to Utah State, graduated then went in the Navy for nearly 5 years. Finally got that air plane back on the old Ranger Aircraft carrier in 1946. Back to Logan and taught physical education at Smithfield Junior High School until 1954. Was a salesman at Cache Valley Builders and Anderson Lumber, then worked for Logan City until retirement in 1989.
Vern wrote those words at the request of his children a few years back. Vern married Helen Ellis in the 1940’s. They had a son, Jack (JoAnn Andersen) and twin daughters, Patty (Brad and Barbara Spring, Salt Lake City) and Peggy (Wolford) Rasmussen (Paul Rasmussen, N. Logan). He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, daughter Patty and daughter-in-law, Maxine O. Andersen. Vern and Helen enjoyed and loved their lives together in a way admired by many who desired to emulate their relationship. Vern is survived by 5 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Vern was an easy going guy and developed many friends whose associations he enjoyed immensely. You might remember him riding his bike from River Heights to the DI, or down town Logan, sometimes to meet friends and sometimes to just go for a ride.
Vern and Helen built a cabin in the late 60’s, a round house on the shores of Bear Lake, in Pickleville, Utah. The cabin is enjoyed by family and friends and will allow us to cherish his memory forever.
He leaves a legacy of ambition, creativity, thrift, and a positive attitude among many other sterling qualities.
The family thanks Logan Regional Hospital ER for kind help in ‘all’ his visits, the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for getting him back on his feet, Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence for providing him with a home environment, loving staff and new friends. We also thank Access Hospice Care and TCU at Logan Regional Hospital for assisting him and his family during the last days of his life.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2012 in the Providence City Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside services from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. Condolences may be sent to the family at
