Verna Evelyn Lower 91 passed away peacefully in Logan, Utah, March 6, 2016. Verna was born October 11, 1924, in Wellsville, Utah, to Frank Peterson Broby and Retta Hincks Broby. She was the oldest of 3 daughters.
Verna attended school in Logan, Utah. While she was attending Logan High School she worked at Woolworth’s (dime store). She met her husband, Stewart Lower while at a dance at Elite Hall in Hyrum. Stewart and Verna were married November 10, 1942, shortly after she turned 18. After they were married she stayed in Logan with her mom to finish high school and then moved to Amalga to be with her husband.
Verna is the mother of two children: VeLoy Hansen and Vincent Lower. Verna is survived by her daughter VeLoy, son Vincent, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and her sister Ailene Evans, California.
During her 68 years in Amalga, she worked on their family farm and also worked at Delmonte seasonally to help furnish their house. Verna was known for having a green thumb and growing beautiful award winning roses. She always had a sweet, kind and loving demeanor. Her hobbies included shopping with the girls, gardening, getting her hair and nails done, and spending time with her beloved dog, Tiny, and in her earlier years she enjoyed dancing.
Verna loved her Father in heaven. Her most memorable moments included going through the LDS Temple on July 30, 2005. She was overjoyed to be able to accompany her granddaughter Nicole DeSpain during her sealing at the Temple. After her husband passed away in 2011 she went to live with her daughter, VeLoy in Millville. There she was able to make many memories with her grandkids and great-grandkids and enjoyed spending lots of quality time with her daughter. She also enjoyed getting to know all the ladies of the Millville 5th ward at their monthly luncheons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Retta Broby, husband, Stewart, her sister Dorothy Bench, and one great-grandchild Jesse Steven Keller.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Providence South Stake Center, 360 East 450 North Millville, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to services that morning from 10:30-11:30am at the same location. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
