Viola Rae Wilkin

Our cheerful and loving mother completed her earthly journey on August 3, 2016. Mom was born on November 20, 1934 in Logan, Utah to Delbert and Esther Saltern. She was the oldest of 12 children.

While growing up in Logan, she enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, dancing and also swimming in Bear Lake. While working for photographer Max Brunson, she met his nephew Rollo H. Brunson and they were married in the Logan Utah Temple. After many years of marriage and raising four children, they later divorced.

Mom supported Dad as he pursued his degree in Forestry and secured his commission in the U.S. Air Force. After graduation from USU, Dad served our country as an Air Force Pilot in which Mom willingly moved to various assignments in the U.S. and Japan.

Following Air Force service, Dad then pursued a career as a Forest Ranger with the U.S. Forest Service, which Mom, again, willingly supported and moved many times to a multitude of assignments. Our family shared many fond memories spending summers at the Ranger Station near Swan Valley, Idaho and other times in the mountains of Southern Utah. Dad’s final Forest Service assignment placed our family in Cedar City where Mom continued to be a devoted homemaker and mother, always supporting her children in their various activities.

Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served faithfully in several callings including Ward Primary President. We also have many special recollections as she served in the Paiute Indian Branch.

She later married Scot Wilkin, who was a good companion to her for many years. They later divorced.

We will always remember Mom for her enthusiastic and positive attitude in dealing with life's challenges. She had a fun loving sense of humor in which gave her the ability to make many laugh and smile. She always looked for the good in others and worked hard to make them feel special and important. Mom was a wonderful homemaker who took great pride in keeping her home clean and beautiful. She always made holidays and birthdays special for each of us. She was a classy lady who took good care of herself and her children. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who gave us a foundation of faith and love. We will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Steven and Bruce. She is survived by her children. Jackie (Bryan) Larsen - Logan, Tammy (Doug) Twitchell - Cedar City, Henry (Michele) Brunson - Cedar City and Valerie (Cole) Orton - Cedar City. Mom was a loving grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank Spring Gardens, Bella Terra, and Rocky Mountain Hospice in St. George as well as her sweet sister Jolynn for their tender and loving care of our mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11 A.M. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 A.M.
