Viola Buist Larsen

April 10, 1912 — August 24, 2006

Viola Buist Larsen died peacefully on August 24, 2006, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 94 years old.
Viola was born in Mendon, Utah, on April 10, 1912, to William and Marilla Buist. She was the oldest of their eight children.
Viola was raised in Mendon, attending the elementary school there. After eighth grade she attended and graduated from South Cache High School. It was at South Cache that she met Lee, whom she later married.
Viola married Leland K. Larsen on July 18, 1934, in the Logan Temple. They lived their entire married life in Wellsville, Utah. Leland preceded her in death in 1980.
Lee and Viola were the parents of six children – two sons and four daughters: Nita and Owen Christensen of Wellsville; Val Dean and the late Sandi Larsen of Mendon, Deon and Dallas Hall of Wellsville; Lorene and Steven Leishman of Logan; Sharon and Dennis Simper of Wellsville; and Gary and Nancy Larsen of Wellsville. Viola is also survived by two sisters, Orpha Mohr of Providence, Utah, and Thelma Maughan of Roy, Utah, and a brother, LaVern Buist of Colusa, California.
Viola is the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were the joy and light of her life. She loved spending time with her ever-growing family.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Lee; her parents; two brothers LaVell and Leon; one sister, Gladys Wright; and one daughter-in-law, Sandi Larsen.
Viola was an extraordinary homemaker. She loved baking and sewing. No one could top her fudge and hot rolls. Her handwork and quilting skills were exceptional. After her children were raised, Viola worked as a seamstress at the Kater Shop in Logan for over 35 years.
Viola was a member of the LDS Church and served in many positions throughout her long life. She was a member of the Wellsville Ninth Ward at the time of her passing.
Funeral Services for Viola will be on Tuesday, August 29, at noon, at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center in Wellsville. Viewings will be held on Monday, August 28, from six to eight p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, and on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Stake Center in Wellsville.
