Violet was born in Geneva, Idaho on June 20, 1926 to Samuel Edward and Barbara Nellie Hirschi Widmer, where she grew up in a loving and nurturing home. She attended school in Geneva.
Violet married the love of her life, Russell D. Porter, on January 22, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they created a solid foundation for their family.
Violet was a wonderful mother for her 9 children, and had a deep abiding love for her entire family. She always gave unselfishly to serve and bless the lives of others. She was a happy and joyful person, always enjoying the “Beautiful” things in life. Some of her favorites: music, flowers, dancing, snow capped mountains, birds, the changing of the seasons.
She was a fabulous cook and a wonderful homemaker. Nothing pleased her more than to be with her family for dinner or just a loving visit.
She was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was devoted to her many church callings. She also supervised the cafeteria in the Logan LDS Temple for many years.
In her later years, Violet lived in Williamsburg Assisted Living with a daughter, Charlene Johnson. They helped each other and gave family members an opportunity to serve them and love them. We will always cherish those memories.
Violet touched and influenced the lives of many through her kind and loving ways. She had a giving heart and loved to share with others. She was a friend to everyone she met.
Her life will forever inspire and encourage us. We love you and you’ll forever be in our hearts!
