Virginia Lee  "Sue" Waters Shelton, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 1, 2024 after saying goodbye to her loved ones at Maple Springs of North Logan. She was born in Los Angeles, California on September 12, 1939 to William Waters and Virginia Ethel Worrel, joining her big brother Jack. She grew up in Southern California, graduating from Inglewood High School in 1957. It was at a church dance that she met the love of her life, Horace Randall Shelton. On March 15, 1958 Sue married Randall in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They had been married 50 years at the time of his passing in 2008.

In 1978 they moved their family to Logan, Utah to open Shelton’s Amoco Station. She especially loved fall in Cache Valley as well as spending time in the mountains, whether camping, hauling wood or enjoying the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. They were blessed to move into a wonderful neighborhood where they quickly made lifelong friends who watched out for and took care of each other to the very end. We greatly appreciate their friendships and how much they loved and cared for her.

Her life was filled with service. Over the years she cared for more than 50 newborns as a foster parent with LDS Social Services, each one leaving with a handmade quilt. She made countless quilts for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, ward members and the LDS Humanitarian Center. She organized Helping Hands in her ward which led to doughnuts every Thursday with dear friends.

Sue was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in MIA, Relief Society, Primary and the temple, but when recently asked what her favorite calling she had held was, she answered “Librarian” with a big smile. Genealogy was one of her favorite hobbies. She researched and prepared many names of relatives to take to the temple so that they could benefit from the same blessings she has.

Many years were spent helping others as she worked for Neill & Co., CHEC Systems and in Admissions at Utah State University. Some of her other hobbies included reading LDS fiction books, watching NCIS, doing puzzles, knitting, sewing, taking care of her flower beds, attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts, caring for her pets (most recently her cat Cali), getting a Maddox burger and going to Angie’s after getting her hair done.

She is survived by son Bill (Trina) Shelton of North Logan, daughter Kellie (Gary) Knighton of Logan, son Steve Shelton and Tiffany Shelton of North Logan, daughter Marci (Wade) Jewkes of Hyde Park, 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and brother-in-law Bart Shelton of Logan.  She is preceded in death by her husband Randall, daughter Tracy, son-in-law Jeff Hedin and many other loved ones who welcomed her home.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Maple Springs for the love and care they provided her in her final months. She grew to love them and her time spent there. Also much thanks to her Lundstrom Park 1st Ward family for their love and support.

There will be a visitation Monday, June 10th from 1-2:30pm at the Lundstrom Park First Ward chapel, 1260 N. 1600 E. in Logan followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm in the Logan City Cemetery.  Graveside services will be broadcast live via ZOOM.
