Providence, Utah: Virginia Lee Barnes Petersen, 68, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2010 due to complications from cancer.
Ginny was born to Ascel M. and Verla K. Barnes in Inglewood, CA on Mar. 15, 1942. She spent her youth in Salt Lake City, and graduated from Highland High School. She married James J. Petersen on March 17, 1961. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple on August 2, 1972. They were blessed with three children, Bryan (Terri) Petersen, Carrie (Brad) Petersen, and Danny (Candiss) Petersen.
In 1966 Ginny and Jim moved to Lake Charles, LA. While living there Ginny was able to attend McNeese State University. Ginny also owned an art Gallery in Lake Charles.
In 1980 the family moved to Lincoln, NE, where she attended the University of Nebraska. This is where she developed a passion for golf and made lifelong friends.
Jim retired in 1996 and the family moved to Providence, UT. Ginny loved Cache Valley and participated in many golf leagues. She loved painting, pottery, floral design, but most of all Ginny loved being a wife, mother, grandma, and spending time with her family.
Ginny was active in the LDS church and held many callings including stake and ward YW president, RS president, and RS counselor. Her great faith carried her through this life and strengthened those around her.
We know that Ginny was anticipating a joyful reunion with her mother and father, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Jim, children, eight grandchildren, and siblings Peggy (Steve) Brown, Terry (Bev) Barnes, and Becky (David) Hesterman.
Ginny had a wonderful talent of developing and keeping close relationships, and will be remembered and loved by many dear friends.
