Virginia Obray Summers

Virginia Obray Summers passed away on September 20, 2010. She was born in Paradise, Utah on April 16, 1917 to Horace and Henrietta (Nettie) Obray and spent her entire life in Paradise. She attended Paradise Elementary School, South Cache High School and in 1968 graduated from Utah State University with a BS Degree in English and History.
On September 12, 1935 she married Leelin Summers in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed 49 years together before Lee passed away on January 20, 1984. Together they raised six children, Vernon (Margot) Summers, Chrystal (Harvey) Mohr, Ramona (Gary) Lemon, Vaughn (Gwen) Summers, Loyal (Julie) Summers and Edwin Dean (Annette) Summers.
Virginia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in many ward and stake callings including Stake Relief Society President and Gospel Doctrine Teacher for more than 20 years. She worked for many years in the Church Extraction Program and fulfilled a Family History Mission in Detroit, Michigan from 1992-1993. She had a testimony of temple work and attended often throughout her life. She was a faithful member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Sagwitch Camp and was the author of a history of Chief Sagwitch.
She was a gifted writer and wrote many stories and histories which are treasured by her family. She was an avid reader and had a love of literature. She was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours sewing and crocheting beautiful gifts for her family and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, brother Preston Obray, sister Constance Kostoff, and daughter-in-law, Verla Richie Summers.
She is survived by her 6 children, 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Annette Norman.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the Paradise 3rd Ward Chapel, 9060 South 200 West, Paradise, Utah. Friends and family may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 11 to 11 :45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Paradise Cemetery.
