Vonda Hadfield Whitlock

January 24, 1920 — July 11, 2017

Vonda Hadfield Whitlock passed away on July 11th, 2017 at Legacy House in Logan, Utah. Vonda was born in Grouse Creek, Utah to William Hadfield and Grace Viola Jorgensen, the sixth of 10 children.
Vonda spent her first 15 years growing up in Grouse Creek and later joined her mother and siblings in Logan to continue her education. She graduated from Logan High School.
She met her eternal sweetheart Jack K. Whitlock and they were married April 10th, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. Both Jack and Vonda attended school at Utah State Agricultural College, now Utah State.
Vonda and Jack settled in Logan where Jack started his own building construction business and Vonda began her career in the utility billing division at the Logan City Office. She retired from the city after 37 years of employment. For more than 50 years, together Vonda and Jack enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and making many lifetime friends.
Vonda’s membership in the LDS church was vitally important to her. She enjoyed serving in her ward and stake callings, including Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society. After retirement Vonda served for 15 years as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. Vonda’s favorite calling was as a greeter in the Hillcrest 2nd ward. She met the members of the ward each week with a smile and hug when they arrived at church. The opportunity to visit with people at church was a highlight for her in her later years.
Vonda had an infectious smile and was a friend to all who knew her. Her celebratory phone calls for birthdays and special occasions will be missed. Vonda enjoyed cheering for the USU Aggies, Utah Jazz, and playing Rummikub. Vonda was famous for her homemade honey candy and hot rolls. Friends and neighbors would stop by frequently to visit with Vonda and enjoy a piece of honey candy. Crocheting was one of her favorite hobbies. Many have been the recipients of her crocheted hangers and hot pads.
Grouse Creek was dear to her heart. She always had a story or memory of Grouse Creek to share of her early childhood. Her favorite flowers were forget-me-nots and hollyhocks. Whenever we see these flowers, we will remember you. Vonda, you will never be forgotten.
Vonda’s life was enriched and blessed by her family. She is survived by her two wonderful children, Jackie (Scott) Alvord of St. George, Utah, Von H. (Nileen) Whitlock of Las Vegas, Nevada, and one brother Max (Marie) Hadfield of River Heights, Utah. Jack and Vonda also have seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Whitlock, grandson Troy Whitlock, parents William and Grace Hadfield, brothers Gordon Hadfield, Ronald Hadfield, Elden Hadfield, Norman Hadfield, Dean Hadfield, and sisters Myrl Allen, Amy Petersen, Nina Bastow.
Last September Vonda moved to the Legacy House assisted living where she could get the extra care she needed. Vonda continued to make new friendships at Legacy and learned to play BINGO. The family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice for the wonderful care given to Vonda. A special thanks to Anna and Kellee for their tender care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 17th, 2017 at the Hillcrest 2nd Ward Chapel, 830 North 1500 East, Logan. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, July 16th, 2017 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, and prior to the services on Monday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
