Wade G Dewey, 89, died peacefully on July 31, 2017, at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah. Wade was born August 10, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA. His parents were Arlen G Dewey and Fern Sophronia (Rainey) Dewey.
Wade had a loving family life with his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. He graduated from Logan High School in 1945, then entered the military where he served until 1947. After this Wade served an honorable full-time mission for 2 years in the Northern California Mission. He then attended college at Utah State University and while there dated and married Lorna Nyman from North Logan on June 8, 1951. They had a happy, loving marriage and were blessed with four children.
After graduation from USU as Valedictorian, Wade went to graduate school at Cornell University, where he received a PhD in plant breeding. He returned to USU in 1956 as a Professor of Plant Science and wheat breeder for 33 years. Wade received many awards in his career, culminating with his induction to the USU College of Agriculture Alumni Hall of Honor in 2016.
Following his retirement in 1989 he and Lorna served a full-time agricultural mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Missouri at Adam-ondi-Ahman, where Wade worked primarily to help beautify the natural landscape of this sacred place. During his life Wade served in many Church callings including Bishop, High Councilman, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and for the last 20 years as Church Meetinghouse Facilitator. The calling he most loved, though, was that of husband and father. He was a great teacher at work, in the Church, and in his home. He lived the Gospel to the fullest. Wade’s greatest love was for his wife, Lorna.
Wade loved the outdoors, and spent thousands of days there with his children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. He also loved his garden, and was a master gardener. He liked nothing more than sharing his produce with others. He spent countless happy hours planning, planting, weeding, and gathering produce from it.
Wade is survived by his two sons, Steve (Chris) and Neal (Loreita) and a son-in-law Dave Anderson. He had 15 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren (plus more on the way!) He is also survived by his 3 siblings Joan (Richard) Criddle, Jean (Don) Sisson and Jed (Nina) Dewey, and his sister-in-law Lois Dewey.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorna and parents, 2 brothers – Spence (Pauline) Dewey and Doug Dewey, his wife, daughter Cheryl Anderson, and son Hal Dewey.
There will be a viewing from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 4th at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on 34 E. Center Street in Logan. An additional viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am Saturday at the 10th Ward chapel on 1550 E. 1900 N. in North Logan.
