Wallace Lee Petersen

December 17, 1933 — July 17, 2008

LOGAN, UTAH: Wallace (Wally) Lee Petersen passed away unexpectedly July 17, 2008 in Abuja Nigeria while traveling on business. He was born December 17, 1933, in Logan, Utah the eldest of nine children by Leland W. Petersen and Thelma Liljenquist. Wallace spent his childhood in Hyrum, Utah, going to school and working on the sheep ranch. Wallace had a work ethic born of those early ranching years.

Wallace attended South Cache High School, Utah State University and the University of Utah where he graduated with a B.S Degree in Business. He also graduated from the Thunderbird School of Foreign Trade in Arizona. He served a 2 ½ year mission in Uruguay for the L.D.S. Church.

Wallace married Renee Reese of Logan, Utah, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They made their home in Saratoga, California and they are the parents of Leslie Larson (Michael), Randall Scott, Craig Reese and grandparents to seven grandchildren and over fifty nieces and nephews. Wallace and Renee were later divorced but remained friendly and involved in their children and grandchildren's lives.

Wallace's professional life began at W.R Ames, an irrigation company in Milpitas, California, as an Assistant Export Manager. Within six months he became the Export Manager. He began traveling extensively doing business in South and Central America and Libya. Eventually, he formed other business entities and continued to conduct business internationally.

Wallace lived and worked abroad for many years. He loved to travel and visited many countries but the sheep ranch was always a part of him. After the passing of his father, Wallace returned to Hyrum and helped run the sheep business for several years. Most recently, Wallace owned and operated Desert Fresh Gardens, an herb farm in Pahrump, Nevada, supplying fresh herbs to the Las Vegas restaurants. At the same time, Wallace continued to pursue business contracts in Nigeria, a country in which he had spent many years. Wallace passed away in full health doing what he loved. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and colleagues throughout the world.
