Wallace N. Jibson
RIVER HEIGHTS, UTAH: Wallace N. Jibson, 90, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, returned to his Father in Heaven January 18, 2006 in Logan, Utah.
He was born July 15, 1915, in Grantsville, Utah to John and Hazel Anderson Jibson. He was blessed with five brothers and one sister.
Wally moved with his family to a farm in Declo, Idaho when he was four years old. Growing up in depression years with hard work and little money, Wally enrolled at Utah State University. Many interruptions in school included a summer job that stretched into five years. Wally served three years in World War II, mostly in the South Pacific as a Navy Photo Intelligence officer. While attached to a Naval Air Reconnaissance Squadron on Guadalcanal, Wally volunteered in response to an Army request to serve in the 14th Army Corps on Bougainville Island about 500 miles, farther up the Solomon Island chain. He was assigned to the G-2 (Intelligence) staff of the Commanding General where he served three months. During these lapses in his school effort, Wally had courted a former Declo neighbor, Minnie (Mickey) Preston. Their marriage on July 8, 1939 was an interruption he never regretted. After the war they returned to Logan where he graduated in civil engineering in 1946. They moved to River Heights in 1951 where they have resided ever since.
Wally worked as an engineer and hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and retired as Project Engineer in 1980. During this time he also served under a cooperative program with the Tri-State Bear River Compact Commission in drafting and administration of the interstate river compact. He was appointed by President Gerald Ford as Federal Representative to serve as Chairman of the Commission where he served for seven years. He then was appointed as the first Engineer-Manager of the Commission
and served until his retirement in 1989. Wally served many years in the River Heights City Council and as city engineer and was actively involved in the Lion’s Club. He was active in the LDS Church where he has served in many stake and ward positions.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Mickey, his children Cathy (Scott) Wilcock, Smithfield, Utah and Ron (Janet) Jibson, Bountiful, Utah, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Cal (Fae) Jibson, of Gooding, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Danny and Lanny Jibson, sister Thelma (Ken) Barrett, brothers Lester Jibson, Bill (Edna) Jibson, Jay (Myrtle) Jibson, Ralph (Gertrude) Jibson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 21,2006 at the River Heights 2nd Ward , 800 South 600 East, River Heights, Utah.
