Our sweet matriach, Wanda Jensen Adair, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 19, 2013, at the Williamsburg Retirement Center in Logan, Utah. She was 96 years old and died as she lived, with integrity, responsibility, and devotion. Though sad at her passing, we remain thrilled with her reunion with her husband, family, and her Savior and Heavenly Father.
Our mother was born on October 9, 1916, in the rural town of Manassa in southern Colorado to her beloved mother Kate Estella Mortensen and father Christen Peter Jensen, a successful rancher/farmer, who she idolized. She was raised an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a happy home with six loving siblings: Melvin, Oneta, Clyde, Ila, Lyman, and Vera.
Mom attended Brigham Young University where she met Joseph Smith Adair. Dad was so smitten that he rode his motorcycle from central Utah to southern Colorado to visit mom that next summer. They were married in Taos, New Mexico on August 20, 1937.
Dad graduated from BYU and began a career in geology that would take them all over the United States. Mom bore two exceptionally handsome sons during this time. Michael was born in Salina, Utah in 1942. Ron was born in Denver, Colorado in 1952.
When dad retired from the FAA in 1973, they moved to San Jacinto, California with two of her sisters and their husbands. What joyous years those were: road trips altogether, serving in the Los Angeles Temple and later serving as proselyting missionaries in the Georgia Mission. Upon returning, one-by-one her siblings passed away. Then, Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and passed away in 1993. Mom devoutly, independently and courageously took care of Dad during the last few years.
In 1999, we boys convinced mom to move to the Williamsburg Retirement home in Logan, Utah where she resided until her passing. Mom so appreciated and loved the entire staff for making her stay a pleasant one. Even though she was blind and increasingly hard of hearing in her last years, she courageously fought the good fight right up to the end. Mother is survived by two sons and their sweet wives: Michael David and Diane Adair, and Ronald Kent and Barbara Adair, 12 grandchildren, and 39 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 23, 2013 at 1:00pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel. Condolences may be extended to the family on line by visiting
