Wanda Buttars Staker
August 5, 1919 – April 18, 2012
Wanda was born August 5, 1919 in Smithfield, Utah to Frank and Annie Nyman Corbett. She was one of eight daughters. She is survived by one sister, Donna Pearce, Sandy, Utah. She graduated from North Cache high school
Wanda married Jay Buttars July 11, 1938. They celebrated 50 years of marriage just before
He died July 28, 1988. Wanda lived in Logan, Utah for 39 years. Wanda is the mother of three children: Tyrone J. Buttars (deceased); Lynda Kay Chapman, San Jose CA; Brent D. Buttars, (Lynn), Fremont CA; four granddaughters; Ali Buttars, Chicago, IL; Natalie Severino, (Jon) Morgan Hill, CA; Monica Creegan, (Liam) Eureka, CA; and Alex Buttars, San Francisco, CA.
She married Earl Staker, Nov. 18, 1989 and moved to Taylor, Utah. Earl passed away in 2004. Wanda enjoyed Earl’s large family including four stepchildren Val Staker, Max Staker, Don Staker, and Sharon Muirbrook with 20 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
In March of 2010 Wanda moved to California to live with her daughter Lynda so she could share her last precious years with her children and grandchildren in the Bay area. She was proud of her metal capabilities and managed all her personal business. She read one or two books a week on her Kindle. As a lifelong basketball fan she was able to attend her first NBA game in California. She watched all the Warriors games and was well versed in the statistics of the game.
Wanda loved to dance and belonged to Dance Clubs and taught Ballroom dancing at the Stake level. She served as President of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in Logan and was active in the organization in Ogden, Utah. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting and making afghan throws for her family.
Wanda has always been active in the LDS Church and held many positions. In Logan she served as president of the 7th ward Primary and President of the Relief Society.
A Memorial Service celebrating Wanda’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 28th at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan. A viewing will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
