Wanda Rhodes
Logan-Wanda Egan Rhodes of River Heights passed away August 16, 2009 at the age of 93.
She was born in Preston Idaho July 23, 1916 to Horace Walter Egan and Anna Bernhardina Jakobson. Married John Samuel Palmer Rhodes January 31, 1938 in Los Angels California and later sealed in the Salt Lake City temple on May 5, 1942. John died July 7, 1997.
Mrs. Rhodes enjoyed painting and gardening. She was a freelance writer and has published articles, poetry, and history including The History River Heights in 1988. She served two terms on the River Heights City council, was president of the Utah Federation of Republican Women and served on the board of the National Federation of National Republican Women and delegate to the Republican National Convention in Detroit.
She was a staff member of Utah House of Representatives and served on political campaign committees including those of US Senators Jake Garn and Orin Hatch. She taught special tutorial classes at Logan Jr. High, worked in real estate, as a nurse’s aid, was the patient coordinator for the National Multiple Scleroses Society of Utah, and owned and managed Rhodes Gallery, an antique store in Logan Utah.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served in numerous stake and ward positions. Survived by her and children; John W. “Jack” Rhodes (Becky Smith), Provo; Peggy Low (Rod Low), North Logan, David Rhodes (Lucia Thomas), River Heights; Kitty Dunn (Michael Dunn), Brigham City; Elizabeth Merrill (Reese Merrill), Brush Prairie, Washington; brother Dale W. Egan and wife Connie. She had 16 grandchildren (two deceased) and 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 Navaho children through the LDS Indian Placement Program.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Providence Stake Center, 600 East 800 South River Heights, Utah, conducted by Bishop David Rasmuson. Friends may call from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Stake Center.
