W. Doyle Cazier

May 29, 1924 — February 3, 2012

LOGAN - Willard Doyle Cazier, 87, passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Friday, February 3, 2012, from illness and the cumulative affects of Parkinson’s disease and stroke.

He was born May 29, 1924 in Huntington, Utah to Charles Bingham Cazier and Lora Matilda McKee. At six months of age, they moved to Smithfield and then soon to Logan where they settled. Doyle was the youngest of five children: Benere, Kent, Doris, and Blake. He attended Logan schools, graduating from Logan High in 1943. His draft letter into the US Army awaited him at graduation. Two days later he was on a train headed for basic training in Ft. Douglas. He served in the European theater during World War II, returning home in 1946. He remained in the Army Reserves for many years after completing active duty.

He first attended Utah State Agricultural College and later barber school in Salt Lake City, graduating with a Master Barber License. He cut hair together with his father for many years at the “Cazier Barber Shop”. He then took over the business, expanding the operation and services offered and renamed it, “Doyle’s Den”. He retired after 50 years in the business. A hard worker and outstanding provider, he also worked early mornings and more for the U.S. Postal Service while operating his shop during the day.

The best man in his friend's wedding, Doyle took notice of the beautiful bridesmaid who was sister to the bride. He pulled her chair out for her at the dinner and later called to invite her out. He went on to marry that pretty girl, Kathryn Marie Knowlton, on November 16, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Doyle was active in the LDS church serving in many capacities, such as home teacher, counselor in the bishopric, ward and stake clerk, and assistant in the high priest group leadership. He played ward softball as the senior member on the team. He loved to play golf and spend time with his friends. He enjoyed collecting coins and nurturing his vegetable garden. The focus of his life was his family, and he loved being around them. He was the biggest fan of his sons and grandchildren in their various endeavors, attending every event possible.

His life of faith, hard work, patience in affliction, and dedication to family and friends will be an example that we'll always cherish.

He is survived by his dear Kathryn and their four sons, Mike Cazier, Logan, Steve (Jill) Cazier, Providence, Scott (Jennifer) Cazier, Indianapolis, Indiana, Ron (Linda) Cazier, Rochester, Michigan, and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a grandson.

The family would like to express appreciation to doctors Bryce Cook and Steven Salisbury for years of expert care; and also a special thanks to Diane Crockett and the caring staff of Access Home Care & Hospice who were such a help and comfort to him.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, February 10, 2012, in the Logan 19th Ward LDS Church building at 1255 N 600 E in Logan. There will be a viewing beforehand from 10:30 – 11:45. There will also be a viewing from 6-7:30 PM Thursday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street in Logan. Internment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
