Wendell Lamoine Peterson

August 1, 1917 — February 7, 2008

LOGAN, UTAH: Wendell LaMoine Peterson of Logan passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was 90.
Wendell was born August 1, 1917 in Lago, Idaho to Nephi and Ida Hubbard Peterson. He grew up in Grace, Idaho where he graduated from high school and developed a love of farming. He served in WorId War II in Europe, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Agronomy in 1953. He married Leda Widdison in the Salt Lake Temple that same year. Leda preceded him in death in 1990, and we rejoice to think of their long awaited reunion.
Wendell worked at Thiokol from 1959 to 1987 as a chemical lab technician. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the bishopric, Sunday School and priesthood quorums, but his favorite calling was in the primary nursery, where he served for many years in his old age. Many young people love him as Grandpa Peterson because of that service. He loved to attend the temple and served in the Logan Temple Baptistry for twenty years. He enjoyed family history work and did name extraction for many years. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.
Wendell was preceded in death by seven siblings. He is the father of six children, Jeffrey (Kristy) Peterson, Logan; Randolph (Leslie) Peterson, Ontario, Oregon; Reginald (Sharon) Peterson, Orem; Melissa (Gary) Keck, Stafford, Virginia; William (Angela) Peterson, Logan; and Susan (Mark) Clyde, Palmer, Alaska. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Whether on a church welfare farm, at the temple, in the nursery, at home, in a neighborhood or among strangers, Wendell was happiest when he was serving. "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God." Mosiah 2:17
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, February 11th, at the Lundstrom Park chapel, 1260 North 1600 East in Logan with a preceding viewing at 10:30. There will be a viewing from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 10 at Allen-Hall Mortuary.
Wendell loved to share of his limited means with others, so the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the charities of your choice. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net
