Wesley Baer

September 23, 1925 — March 5, 2010

Wesley A. Baer, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully at his home in Providence on March 5, 2010, after courageously battling a long illness. Wes was born on September 23, 1925 in Providence to Joseph R. Baer and Klea Astle Baer. He attended Providence schools and graduated from South Cache High School . After high school, Wes joined the Navy and served on a destroyer and destroyer escort during World War II. Wes was always proud of his military service and loved to tell the stories of his experiences traveling around the world. After the War and his honorable discharge from the Navy, Wes married his sweetheart, Georgene “Geenie” Daines from Hyde Park, on November 16, 1948 in the Logan Temple , and they made their home in Providence where they raised their two children, Pamela and Steven. Wes learned to love the land and animals from his father. In the early years of his marriage, he helped run his
father’s fruit farm and started his own dairy herd. A back injury and surgery caused Wes to seek work other than farming. In addition to his year at USU, he completed a two year telecommunications certification from Salt Lake Trade Tech, now Salt Lake Community College , in one year. He then began working for Continental Telephone in Tremonton on their switching equipment, but his love for farming did not die. Wes sold his dairy cattle so he would not have to lift milk cans and invested in beef cattle where automated equipment could help with the lifting. Wes now had two full time jobs and together with his brother, Lloyd, farmed and ran cattle until about six years ago. After he retired as District Operation Manager for ConTel, Wes built a woodworking shop behind his home and spent his spare time working with wood. He loved making wonderful pieces of furniture and toys for his children and grandchildren. His family will always treasure these artistic
keepsakes. Wes loved to serve. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he always held a church calling. He loved the Lord and set a wonderful example of faithfulness to his family and friends. He also loved serving in the Lions Club, donating time preparing tax returns, serving as secretary and treasurer of the Blacksmith Fork Water Company and in other community positions, serving in the temple, and helping neighbors in need. Wes is survived by his wife, Geenie, and his children, Pamela (David) Hirschi of Centerville, Utah and Steven (Heidi) Baer of Holladay, Utah. Wes also leaves a lasting legacy of seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom love their Grandpa very much and will miss him greatly. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Fruitland Acres Ward, 464 North 300 East, in Providence. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 10, between 6:00 and
8:00 p.m., at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan. There will also be a viewing prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Fruitland Acres Ward. Internment will be at the Hyde Park Cemetery . The family expresses its love and appreciation to the members of Alpine Hospice who generously assisted Wes and his family over the last several weeks.
