Newton - Wesley H. Petersen, 97, passed away peacefully at Logan Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center, October 20, 2012.
Born September 19, 1915 in Newton to Sern and Pauline Petersen. Wes was the
third of four children and lived almost his entire life in his boyhood home.
He was educated in Cache County Schools, mainly Newton School and North
Cache High School. Following High School he briefly attended Stevens Heniger college
in Salt Lake City but soon determined he was better suited to life in the country and
returned to the family farm.
At the time of his death he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints. Having lived through the depression Wes was the epitome of self reliance and
thrift, a talented mechanic he could fix almost anything. He lived by the philosophy of
"fix it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." His equipment and farm were
meticulously cared for. Wes never married and says his only date was pumping a girl
home from school on his bike. Hard work was the trade mark of Wes's life. He was very
content with his life and never made the transition to much oftoday's modem advances
such as a microwave oven or computer, as recently as last week he was fixing his own
meals on the coal stove and could be seen carrying buckets of coal from the coal shed to
the house for heat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings.
He held a very unique place in our community and the void left by his passing
will be felt by friends, neighbors, and those who have come to respect and love him!
Thanks to those who gave kind and caring attention to him the last few days of his life.
Graveside services will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday, October 24th at the Newton Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM prior to the graveside at the Newton LDS building, 76 South 100 West in Newton. Condolences may be sent to the family online at
